Sampling
Sampling methods for current commodities are accredited. Typical cargos sampled during marine vessel loading in the Port are:
• iron and manganese ores
• copper, lead and zinc concentrates
• coal and anthracite, etc
Sampling is performed in the Port or at customer sites where commodities are stored, such as at stockpiles, from conveyors, rail trucks, etc.
Sampling systems at mines are evaluated and tested to ensure fit for purpose functioning as part of the consulting services provided.
Testing and Analysis
Technical skills and analytical services include:
Testing and Analysis: 14 methods are SANAS-accredited
Routine services include monitoring and sampling for moisture and quality control aspects during cargo-loading stockpile to vessel.
Pre-shipment moisture certification of cargo and transportable moisture limit (TML) safety measures for vessel and onboard cargo. Both Flow Table and Modified Proctor-Fagerberg methods are accredited for multiple commodities.
Supervision of bulk, bagged and containerized cargo performing weighing and sampling at all points such as receiving products from mines, loading, discharge and transit locations.
Material sizing.
Load-port and discharge port coordination.
X-Ray Spectrometry analysis of commodities, wet chemical titrations and potentiometric titrations of the ores, speciation of Fe2O3 versus FeO versus metallic Fe. Mn and Fe potentiometry.
Solutions pH and conductivity measurements.
Tumble/Abrasion index determinations.
Bulk density, solutions Archimedes tests and pycnometer determinations.
